BREAKING: NTC Releases 18 Offences That Can Cancel Your 2026 GTLE Paper - 52% Pass Mark
The National Teaching Council (NTC) has released strict guidelines, examination offences and penalties for the 2026 Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE).
Every candidate writing the GTLE I Numeracy, Literacy and Essential Professional Skills must read and sign a Consent Form before entering the hall. The form contains Index Number, Examination Centre, Examination Time-table, Date for the examination, and Offences and Penalties.
According to the guidelines sighted by Sir Ameyaw Updates, the pass mark for the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination is fixed at 52%.
NTC 2026 GTLE Examination Offences and Penalties:
The NTC has listed 18 offences that can lead to cancellation, ban, or prosecution:
1. Leakage of examination questions: This involves any knowledge or possession of examination questions before the examination, whether hard copy, soft copy or on telegram, WhatsApp platform or any other social media platform.
Penalty: Handing him/her to the police for investigation to be prosecuted. If the person is a candidate, his/her results should be cancelled. The candidate should re-write when the paper is being taken a year after the incidence.
2. Possession of unauthorized materials: Blank pieces of paper, notes, textbooks, prepared materials, programmable calculators, mobile phones, iPad and mp3.
Penalty: Cancellation of the candidate's particular paper(s) and the candidate to rewrite when the paper is being taken in the following examination.
3. Copying from prepared notes or colleague, stealing, converting or misappropriating scripts, substituting worked scripts.
Penalty: Cancellation and rewrite in next exam.
4. Persistently looking over other candidate's shoulder (giraffing) in order to cheat.
Penalty: For 1st offence, report documented and candidate made to sign a bond. Any 2nd offence will attract cancellation of paper and rewrite when paper is taken in following examination.
5 & 8. Impersonation - Impersonating another candidate or allowing oneself to be impersonated.
Penalty: Cancellation of paper, dismissal, prosecution and/or be banned for 2 years.
6. Assisting or attempting to assist, obtaining or attempting to obtain assistance from a candidate or non-candidate.
Penalty: Cancellation and rewrite.
7. Consulting or trying to consult any book, notes or other unauthorized materials or electronic device such as programmable calculators, mobile phones, iPad and mp3 during examination.
Penalty: Cancellation and rewrite.
9. Verbal assault/threat or physical assault on supervisors/invigilators.
Penalty: Cancellation and banned for one year, or dismissal, cancellation, prosecution and banned for 2 years for physical assault.
10. Bringing into the hall or using anything including chemical substance with intent to cause temporary or permanent injury to any authorized person and other candidates.
Penalty: Cancellation, dismissal and prosecution.
11. Destroying materials suspected as evidence against offender, e.g. blank pieces of paper, notes, textbooks.
Penalty: Cancellation and banned for 2 years.
12. Destroying any examination material(s) inside or outside the examination hall, e.g. tearing of leaflets from answer booklet, tearing question papers.
Penalty:Cancellation and rewrite in following examination.
13. Writing after the examination has ended after persistent reminder.
Penalty: Caution for 1st offence. For 2nd offence, paper to be cancelled and rewrite in following examination.
14. Frequently seeking permission to attend nature's call with intent to cheat.
Penalty: Caution for first time. For 2nd offence, stop the candidate from continuing the examination and apply necessary sanction for cheating.
15. Failure to write index numbers on question paper or answer booklet after persistent reminder.
Penalty: Caution for first time. After first caution, if the index number is still not written, it should be interpreted as intention to cheat. The candidate should be stopped from writing the paper.
16. Attempting or trying to influence examiners to alter or change marks, e.g. writing statements in answer booklets in the form of pleas; writing letters to examiners, supervisors and invigilators.
Penalty: Cancellation and rewrite.
17. A licensed teacher attempting to engage or engaging in examination malpractice.
Penalty: His/her license will be suspended for a period of 2 years.
18. Thirty minutes late after the start of the examination.
Penalty: The candidates will not be allowed to sit for the paper.
Other Important Information:
VI. Request for Marking: A request for remarking should be received not later than sixty days after the release of the results. After this period, no appeals on candidates' results will be accepted. Any candidate who makes such a request will pay the prescribed fee.
VII. Disposal of Scripts: Scripts will be disposed off ninety (90) days after the release of the results.
Candidates are required to sign a declaration that they have read and understood the offences and penalties.
All 2026 GTLE candidates must take note to avoid cancellation.
