KNUST Opens Application for Spring 2027 Exchange Programme to University of Caen Normandy, France.

KNUST Announces Spring 2027 Student Exchange Programme to University of Caen Normandy, France

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has officially opened applications for its Spring 2027 Exchange Programme to the University of Caen Normandy (UNICAEN) in France. The programme is exclusively for KNUST students and will run from January to May 2027.

This international academic mobility opportunity is aimed at exposing KNUST students to a different educational system, culture and research environment in Europe. According to the International Programmes Office (IPO) of KNUST, the exchange is open to both undergraduate and master's students across various colleges.

The University of Caen Normandy, located in the Normandy region of France, is one of the oldest universities in France and a partner institution to KNUST under the bilateral exchange agreement.

Who Can Apply?

The call is open to all regular KNUST students who are currently enrolled in undergraduate or master's programmes. Applicants must be in good academic standing and must have completed at least one academic year at KNUST at the time of application.

Final year students who will be completing their programme before January 2027 are not eligible to apply, as they will not be students of KNUST during the exchange period.

Available Courses at University of Caen Normandy

One of the biggest advantages of this exchange programme is the wide range of courses available. Students from almost all academic backgrounds can find a relevant track.

According to the flyer released by IPO KNUST, the following fields are available:

1. Humanities and Social Sciences: Literature, Language Sciences, History, Sociology, Performing Arts and Philosophy.

2. Economics and Management: Economics, Geography, Management and Psychology.

3. Health Sciences: Dentistry, Medicine and Pharmacy.

4. Law and Languages: Law and Languages.

5. Sciences and Technology: Biology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics and Science and Technology of Physical and Sports Activities.

This broad course structure means students from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, College of Health Sciences, College of Science and College of Engineering can all apply.

Language Requirements

Since the host university is in France, language proficiency is a key requirement. However, applicants do not necessarily need to be fluent in French.

The university has set two categories:

- For most courses, students need English Proficiency at B1/B2 level.

- For some selected courses, English Proficiency at B1 level is acceptable.

The B1/B2 levels refer to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). B1 is intermediate, while B2 is upper-intermediate. Students can prove this through previous English proficiency certificates or a letter from their department.

For students who are not confident in French, there are special English-taught options available. This makes it easier for Ghanaian students to study and cope in France.

English-Taught Programmes Available:

- French Law Track

- Business and Management

- Educational Mobilities and Tourism

These three tracks are fully taught in English, so students who do not speak French can still participate fully.

Application Requirements and Documents

Interested students must prepare and submit the following documents. The IPO has emphasized that all documents must be combined into a single PDF file before upload.

1. Academic Transcript: An official or student copy of your current academic transcript from KNUST.

2. CV and Motivation Letter: A well-written Curriculum Vitae and a motivation letter explaining why you want to join the exchange programme, what you hope to achieve and how it relates to your academic goals.

3. Passport Biodata Page: A scanned copy of the information page of your valid passport. If you do not have a passport yet, you are advised to start the process immediately.

4. Recommendation Letter: A recommendation letter, preferably from your Head of Department (HoD), but it is not mandatory. You can also get it from your academic advisor or a senior lecturer who knows you well.

All these documents should be scanned clearly and merged into one PDF.

How to Apply

The application process is online. According to the official flyer, interested and eligible applicants should scan the QR codes provided on the flyer to complete the application form and to access the full course catalog.

There are two QR codes on the flyer:

- One for the Application Form

- One for the Course Catalog

Applicants are advised to carefully read the course catalog to select courses that match their programme at KNUST. This will make credit transfer easier when they return.

Application Deadline

The deadline for submission is Thursday, 15th October, 2026 at 5:00 PM. No extension will be given after this time. Students are advised to apply early and not wait till the last day to avoid network issues.

Important Notice: Self-Sponsored

The IPO has clearly stated that no scholarship is available for this exchange. Applicants must be self-sponsored. This means students must be prepared to cover their flight tickets, visa fees, accommodation, feeding, health insurance and other living expenses in France.

The cost of living in Caen is moderate compared to Paris, but students should still budget between 600 to 800 Euros per month for living expenses.
